Investigate Industries and Internships (i3)

Thinking about what you can do with your major? Looking for an internship? Interested in learning more about what working in certain industries is like? This career exploratory event is for you!

Investigate Industries and Internships (i3) is designed for undergraduate students who are exploring various career options, eager to hear professional journeys, and looking for internship opportunities to help determine what path to take. At an i3 event, you can learn how employers broke into their respective industries, discover what it is actually like to work in the field, and network with hiring professionals to let them know what makes you a great candidate.  All participating employers offer paid internships for fall, spring, or summer semesters, so this is your chance to learn more about their company and make a great impression. For more information, please read the FAQ below.

RSVPs are requested for this event. Log in to connectSC, click “Events” then “Workshops” then search for your desired i3 event and click “RSVP.”

Spring 2021 dates will be posted in November 2020

Contact us if you have any questions. If your student organization would like to see a certain industry represented in the future, email Mallika Samtani.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is i3? What does the day of i3 look like?
i3 begins with an industry panel and ends with networking. During the panel in the first hour, you can learn more about what it is like to work in the event’s chosen industry and how to enter the field. The subsequent networking portion will allow you to speak more personally to the employers about their professional journeys, as well as learn about internship opportunities with their organization. This is your chance to meet with, ask questions, and give your resume to hiring employers!

Can ______ industry have an i3 event? My student organization is interested in collaborating.
We consider industries the semester prior to the event (i.e., for Spring 2021, we consider industries in Fall 2020). Email Mallika Samtani the semester before your desired event with industry suggestions you would like to see. Priority will be given to student organizations that are willing to collaborate with the Career Center for the event.

Collaboration perks include: (1) being highlighted as a co-sponsor in the Career Center’s i3 marketing (social media, online, and print), (2) providing a list of desired employers to the Career Center for targeted outreach, (3) early entry to the event for one to two executive board members for early networking with hiring managers, and (4) moderating the employer panel alongside a career center representative.

Where is the event located?
The event is located on the University Park Campus, specific venue TBD. For other event details, refer to the workshop event page on connectSC.

How should I prepare for i3?
We recommend researching the companies registered to attend beforehand so that you can ask specific questions about their internship opportunities. If you attend the panel portion of i3 (usually during the first hour of the event), then you will be able to engage in meaningful conversation with the representatives about the details that they shared on the panel, and you can highlight the qualities about yourself that most closely align with what they are looking for in an intern.

What should I wear for the event?
There is no specific dress code for i3, however, we recommend business casual. First impressions are important!

Should I bring copies of my resume?
Yes, it is highly recommended that you bring multiple copies of your resume as employers may ask for it. It is a good idea to bring extra, just in case.

What if I cannot attend an i3 event?
If you are unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict, we live stream the panel portion of each i3 event on our Facebook page. Learn what you missed under the “Videos” section.
