Informational Interview Questions

An informational interview (often called a coffee chat) is an informal conversation (online or in-person) you initiate with a professional working in an industry, role or company you want to explore. Rather than a job interview, informational interview serve as a strategic networking tool designed to gather insights, learn about a career path, and expand your professional network of contacts for future opportunities.

Sample Questions for an Informational Interview:

  • What do you see as the most significant challenges and opportunities facing the industry/profession?
  • What industry publications, podcasts, or associations do you highly recommend?
  • What do you enjoy most about working at your organization?
