Overview:
The D. E. Shaw group seeks talented individuals with unique perspectives to join a 10-week summer internship program with D. E. Shaw Investment Management (DESIM), our institutional asset management group. This inclusive and collegial team was established in 2005 and currently has over $21 billion in assets under management. DESIM builds on the experience and infrastructure of the broader firm to develop and manage active investment strategies that complement our alternative investment strategies. DESIM interns will have the chance to collaborate with innovative teams across portfolio strategy, trading, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG). The program is expected to run from June 12 to August 18, 2023, at our headquarters in New York City.
What you’ll do day-to-day:
As a DESIM intern, you’ll analyze and communicate insights on our active investment portfolios or related market analysis. Intern projects could include researching, writing, and presenting an evaluation of how changes in the market might affect our portfolios and our competitors, or diagnosing the relationship between ESG considerations on forms of risks.
Who we’re looking for:
· Candidates should excel at problem solving, have a learning mindset, and demonstrate interest in financial markets. We welcome applicants from all fields of study. No previous finance experience is necessary.
· Successful interns will analyze and contribute to the group in addition to generating ideas of their own.
· Computer literacy, particularly familiarity with Python, is an advantage but not a requirement.
· Preference will be given to students approaching their final year of full-time study toward a bachelor’s or advanced degree, though all are encouraged to apply.
